About me and my therapy practice

As a psychotherapist, I have the privilege of sharing in each client's personal exploration to a more satisfying way of living. My motivation began, and continues to be, with my own experience as a client, my curiosity and determination to grow by defining and honouring my experience and beliefs. So as a therapist I offer and share my curiosity, tenacity, attention, excitement, to support my clients to foster and honour their own experience and beliefs.

In my experience, psychotherapy and counselling can have a significant impact on our lives, it offers an opportunity to develop our relationship to ourselves and to others in new and more fulfilling ways. I believe that our experience begins with our relationship to ourselves. So learning about how we experience ourselves emotionally, behaviorally and physically, informs us personally and professionally.

About

I accredited as a humanistic psychotherapist with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) in 2003 via Spectrum Therapy.

I work eclectically using a range of models and influences including gestalt, working relationally, formative psychology and polyvagal theory.

I have over twenty years’ experience in private practice as a psychotherapist, combined with a decade each of practicing in the NHS as a counsellor in a GP Surgery and as a Bereavement, Loss and Trauma counsellor in a hospital setting.

The areas I work with include: low mood, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, bereavement, loss, trauma, stress, relationship issues, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, personal growth and more- this is not an exhaustive list so do get in touch if you would like to explore working with me.

I qualified two years ago as an online psychotherapist having trained with the Online Therapy Institute as a Certified Cyber Therapist to work online.

Practice description

Psychotherapy & Counselling

The aim in therapy is to offer a confidential, safe, non-judgemental environment, where we give ourselves the space to explore what is important to us. It is a place where we can feel heard and hear ourselves. With mutual curiosity, openness and with an impartial and curious ear we have the opportunity to grow into the best that we can be.

There are no magic wands or quick fixes, therapy is also not prescriptive or a one-way advice giving setting.

Engaging in therapy can change our lives, as we gain clarity and awareness we can decide what fits for us and follow our own path of who and how we want to be in the world. Some changes may sit well with the people we are in relationship with and for some it can have a more unsettling affect.

How I work

Therapy sessions are held either online using the Zoom video platform or in-person, they last for 50 minutes and we usually begin meeting weekly. The most important element is for us both to feel we can work together and this we establish in our initial free phone conversation and subsequent session(s).

My aim is to provide a collaborative approach of curiosity, understanding, challenge and learning within the therapeutic relationship. Working together to support you to find your way through what brought you, as well as what may also immerge as we work.

As such the duration an individual remains in therapy is very personal to each client. It depends on what issue(s) bring them in the first place, as well as the depth with which they feel comfortable working. Some may feel they want a focused approach and feel satisfied after half a dozen sessions. Whilst others at a similar duration, may feel they have only just begun to explore and become clearer about what brought them and what they want. There is no right or wrong way, just what works for you.

My first session

Interested in working together?

As the most important element of working together is feeling that we are a good match. I offer a free 20 minute telephone or video consultation where we can get a sense of each other and if we would like to go-a-head and book an initial session.

If we do decide to meet for an initial then I send you some documentation  for you to fill out via secure email and return before our initial session. In the initial session(s) we continue to establish if we still feel a good match.

Initial and subsequent sessions are 50 minutes for individuals and 1 hour for couples.
