About me and my therapy practice
You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, irritated, confused or low and lacking in motivation. It may feel difficult to connect with friends, family, colleagues or even with yourself. Perhaps this is a familiar feeling; perhaps it has taken you by surprise or, perhaps, you have been heading towards this point for a while.
I offer a collaborative, trauma-informed, approach to therapy, working at pace that is comfortable for you. I integrate talking therapy with the arts, mindfulness, breath and body work, as well as psycho-education and EMDR.
I invite you to:
- observe and 'listen in' to your thoughts, beliefs, body and emotions with compassion and gentle curiosity
- befriend your nervous system and notice what helps and what hinders your ability to be fully present to your experience, your relationships and your choices
- experiment with strategies, tools and practical techniques, within and between sessions, in order to enhance your resources and further develop your resilience
- reflect on and review the therapeutic process to ensure it remains helpful for as long as we work together
Practice description
Over the past twelve years, I have worked in both NHS and third sector organisations and have extensive experience of working therapeutically with adult survivors of child neglect and abuse (sexual, physical, emotional) and individuals struggling with stress, anxiety and low mood.
I invest heavily in my ongoing professional development, particularly in the field of trauma, including intergenerational, racial, complex (attachment) trauma and C-PTSD, as well as sensory trauma. The latter further supports my work with autistic adults and individuals with ADHD. I completed Somatic Trauma Therapy training with Babette Rothschild and also trained as an EMDR therapist with Sian Morgan, founder of Trauma Aid UK (TAUK)
In addition to registration with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, I am a registered Arts Psychotherapist (No: AS15124) and a member of EMDR UK.
My first session
Initially, please get in touch to arrange a free, 20 minute, phone or zoom call. This is an opportunity to discuss what you are hoping for in therapy and ask questions about how I work. I will consider if I am well placed to support you at this time and you can assess if you feel comfortable enough to meet me for an initial consultation, online or in person.
The initial consultation is 60 minutes. I will enquire further into what you would like from therapy; any previous experience of therapy; your overall health; your support system and existing resources. I will also answer questions you have about my practice.
If we decide to work together, we will read and sign the therapy agreement, which clarifies practicalities, i.e. confidentiality, note taking, cancellations etc.
You can preview the agreement by going to the What to Expect page of my website. Scroll down and click on 'therapeutic agreement'.
