About me and my therapy practice
I am patient, kind, accepting, understanding and good at welcoming clients who would like to see a counsellor. I work from my home in a private room which is comfortable & bright providing a calm space where people seem to feel relaxed in a way which can help from the first meeting. I establish trust with clients, an essential part of building a therapeutic relationship where you can start to talk about what is troubling you. I offer face-to-face therapy, telephone or skype sessions.
I have worked as a counsellor since January 1999. From 1972 to 2006 I was a social worker mainly specialising in family work, particularly adoption so I have extensive experience, knowledge & understanding of helping people with a lengthy list of challenging issues, including personal, health, relationship or work related.
My approach is person centred, non-directive, based on my belief that we all have within us the capacity for self understanding & change. My approach is listen & respond in such a way that is helpful to you to gain understanding of what is troubling you. As well as talking/listening (which is what most of my clients prefer) I offer expressive therapy using drawing, painting, clay, sand & miniature work which some clients find helpful. I will never tell you what to do. I will share my professional knowledge with you if you ask me to.
I worked for the RCN for 5 years providing telephone counselling to nurses.
