About me and my therapy practice

Need a breath of fresh air? Change of scenery? Anxieties and problems can sometimes weigh very heavy and it can be easy for things from the past or present to feel like they are getting on top of us, or maybe you've been meaning to get some support for a while and now is the time to move forward and feel better.

I offer Integrative, Wild and Animal Assisted Therapies and EMDR, separately or as a lovely integration of them all. Working outdoors is my preference but am also happy online. I am fully trained, experienced and insured. I hold Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Senior Accreditation and over the past 19 years I have supported all kinds of people with a wide variety of things they find difficult and we can decide together if I am the right person and this is the right thing for you. I offer a flexible approach to counselling and counselling supervision working outdoors, walking, sitting, with my dog or yours, and online.

There are also proven mental and physical benefits to being in nature, walking if you can, and being with companion animals and my Wild Therapy training harnesses all of these to support you, and the confidentiality and range of difficulties we can address is just the same. No-one will know it's counselling unless you tell them - people will just see us out for a chat.

My dog Stanley and I have worked together for almost eight years. Why not combine your dog walk with your counselling session, join me and Stanley on our walk, or bring a flask and sit on a park bench in the sunshine or meet in a cafe. If the weather doesn't suit you we can switch from a walk to online.

Enhanced DBS check available and child safeguarding training renewed regularly

Practice description

Integrative Counselling is my core training and draws on different established theories and skills that are integrated to create a unique blend of influences that reflect what is meaningful and valuable to the counsellor and their clients. Becoming more aware of what is painful for us and where it originates we are more able to find a way forward through difficulties and make choices and changes that support our wellbeing and personal goals. These choices are always yours and I offer a professional relationship with appropriate boundaries, experience and training to support how you want to move forward.

Wild Therapy is a way of working that emphasises working with how things are rather than pushing against or controlling our world and working outdoors in and with the natural environment if possible as well as our deep connection to things around us, human and non-human.  More here: http://wild-therapy.co.uk

Animal Assisted Therapy - Our connection to animals has been part of our evolution for thousands of years, and for many of us this supports our good mental health. I am no exception and I love working with my therapy dog Stanley. He is a light and playful influence as well as reminding us to stop, sniff, and look at what's happening in the present.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps recovery from trauma and distressing life experiences that can feel stuck and difficult to move on from. It does not always involve lengthy discussion but allows the brain to support its own natural healing capacity by processing things in a particular way. EMDR can often, but not always, be combined with Integrative, Wild or Animal Assisted work outdoors. More here: https://emdrassociation.org.uk

My first session

Before our first session we will usually have had a chat to talk about your goals and any questions you may have. I will send you a      quick form for contact details and a copy of my working agreement so you are clear about everything and can have some input into how we work together. We can discuss this further at our first session where we can also clarify your goals further as well as start working towards them and make any adjustments to practical issues.

About me and my therapy practice

I love teaching. It supports my self-development, facilities me understanding things in new ways and seeing them from others viewpoints. Supporting other people's learning and development gives me a buzz. I got my PGCE in teaching adults in 2010 from Greenwich University and since have worked with and for many organisations teaching integrative counselling to Diploma level, Animal Assisted Therapy, safeguarding, working creatively in counselling, counselling skills for mentors, teachers, support workers and even organic gardening.

I enjoy best working in person and outdoors and inside and am happy to put together a workshop, talk or course on anything I have experience of and am confident about, which includes all of the above plus Wild Therapy, working in schools, working with adolescents, working outdoors. If you're looking for someone to teach, train, put a course or workshop together or support you to, contact me and we can have a chat.

I hold an Enhanced DBS check, child safeguarding training and my own insurance.

About me and my therapy practice

I hold Senior Accreditation as a supervisor and offer supervision for Integrative Counselling, Wild Therapy and Animal Assisted Therapy. Working outdoors in person is my preference but am happy online and also have use of a room indoors. My supervision qualification is in working with individuals and groups and I have 9 years experience supervising and 19 years as a therapist working in many different settings from womens prison to primary school. Currently I work as a therapist with private clients indoors and outside, often with Stanley, my therapy dog, and in two senior schools where I also work with him.

I hold a PGCE in teaching adults, taught counselling for 10 years up to Diploma level and have a lot of experience developing bespoke courses, meeting criteria, marking etc etc. This is also very useful for students in placement who need supervision as I understand course and placement requirements and their difficulties.

My work in schools and with a national charity for 13 years where I supervised support staff and managers and currently work with a homeless charity providing group supervision.

I'm confident in supervising work with adolescents and adults, with therapy animals or without, indoors or out, and also counselling students, counsellors who are also teachers, workers in the charity sector and in schools. I am fully trained, experienced and insured for working in all these ways. Enhanced BDS check available and child safeguarding training also renewed regularly.

I can do concessions for counselling students, please just ask and we can have a conversation.
