About me and my therapy practice
Welcome. I am Anna, a person-centred trained counsellor who has worked therapeutically with people experiencing depression, anxiety or other mental health and/or addiction difficulties for the last 19 years. We are all unique and our presentation to counselling sessions will be different. Counselling sessions are an opportunity to explore the difficulties, concerns or worries that you are experiencing. We will work collaboratively to help you achieve your personal aspirations, goals and an outcome where you benefit from more self comfort, certainty and personal satisfaction. Championing good mental health and wellbeing has always been a priority in my work. Counselling sessions are an opportunity to join fragmented aspects of ourselves, which can lead to improvements in how we feel about ourselves and how we are with others.
Practice description
I have a variety of approaches to counselling. Depending on the presenting problem, it can be useful to explore childhood or troubling life experiences or to set personal challenges which build and restore confidence in ourselves. I have worked with clients struggling with a range of difficult emotions such as anxiety, depression, anger and sorrow; unhelpful patterns of thinking and unwanted coping behaviours such as alcohol/and or drug use or disordered eating patterns. It is often useful to explore the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
My first session
You will ultimately decide the number of sessions you would like to have. When you contact me, I will offer you a free 20 minute exploratory meeting by telephone to discuss your reason for seeking counselling, how counselling might help and to provide you with a little information about how sessions work. Most importantly, I consider this contact an opportunity for you to decide if we can work together. If you do decide to go ahead, we usually agree 8 sessions together, with a review meeting at 6 weeks for you to reflect on the personal value of continuing.
During or after our telephone consultation we will arrange a day and time to meet. I work in person (including some evenings) from 2 locations; Clapham Common and Clapham Junction.
