About me and my therapy practice
Hi my name is Amy Gould. I am an experienced therapist and offer individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults. I also work with parents of children of all ages individually or together as a family.
Therapy offers you a safe and confidential space to develop your awareness of yourself and move towards a more fulfilling life, whether by overcoming specific difficulties such as phobias, social anxiety or depression; helping you to manage family relationships including those with your children or simply providing a space to express and acknowledge your feelings or reflect on how to achieve balance in your life. It is a space where you will be listened to without judgement and not told what to do!
For younger children therapy can provide a space to make sense of emotions and connections with self and others together with family members or individually.
I hold a BSc honours degree Psychology, a Postgraduate certificate in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (PGcert), a certificate in Solution Focused Therapy, 4 years Advanced Training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, Level 1 and 2 EMDR training (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and Level 1 and 2 Child EMDR training.
I have over 10 years experience working within the Child and Adolescent Mental health Service (CAMHS) as well as working in residential childcare services, and Adult mental health. I have been working in private practice for 8 years and have extensive experience of supporting individuals to manage a range of issues including depression, anxiety disorders (including social anxiety, OCD, generalised anxiety, panic and specific phobias), self harm, attachment difficulties, PTSD, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, low self esteem.
Practice description
I run my practice from my home in Rainow which is conveniently located for Macclesfield, Bollington, Congleton, Buxton, Cheadle, Poynton, Wilmslow and surrounding areas. There is parking outside and the room is comfortable and private. I also offer online therapy via zoom if preferred.
My first session
Having probably looked at several different websites it can be difficult to decide who and what might be right for you on your journey. I am always happy to have a brief initial telephone call to discuss what you might want and to answer any questions you may have.
At our first meeting we could think together about what would be beneficial to you. I can offer a space for adults individually, or to think about their family and any difficulties that may be arising or to meet with you together with your child. Alternatively, you may feel that some individual space for your child would be beneficial.
At our initial session we can discuss and agree what would work best and what you want from coming to therapy.
