About me and my therapy practice
As a Person Centred counsellor I work in an open way, with positive regard for who you are and without judgement or conditions. A relationship of trust and understanding is essential and I offer a safe space that I hope will enable you to explore your thoughts and feelings freely and creatively.
The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination (Rogers, 1967)
I qualified as a counsellor in 2005 and volunteered in a young person’s service for four years. I have been counselling adults and young people in private practice for the past 7 years.
I chose to train as a therapist because I feel passionately that finding a space to talk and feel heard is central to our health, emotional well-being and quality of life. I am aware of the institutional systems and structures that can impact us in multiple ways and bring this understanding into the counselling process.
Alongside my counselling I am qualified in restorative practices and have worked in community and family mediation as well as facilitating circles for people to share stories of their lives in a space of safety and trust.
Practice description
Everyone comes to counselling with a unique life story. I will work with you towards building a relationship of respect and acceptance so you can feel secure enough to travel in the directions that are important to you.
My practice focuses on supporting you to work through and understand how the issues you share impact you. I am interested in the way physical responses in our bodies can communicate long held stress and trauma; the exploration of this non-verbal language can contribute to the therapeutic process, connecting mind and body.
My first session
I don’t charge for the introductory meeting as I’m aware that you may be considering more than one counsellor.
This session is a space to get a sense of each other and how we might work together should we decide to go ahead on a regular basis. It is also a space for you to raise any questions or concerns about the counselling process.
