鈥淚 find writing quite cathartic,鈥 said Jayne, who lives in South Yorkshire. 鈥淚 wrote it about three or four years ago while I was going through counselling.

鈥淚t was something that formed in my mind during the counselling sessions.

鈥淚t was more of a thank you to my counsellor. It鈥檚 a descriptive piece describing my journey through counselling.

鈥淚t鈥檚 as though I am lost in this forest. It describes my journey through the forest, through the seasons and the way my counsellor came across me and helped me find my way out of there and the various issues that were affecting me, in the same way that some of the seasons can be quite difficult to overcome.鈥

Jayne鈥檚 counselling was delivered through Rotherham Abuse Counselling Service. She was referred after her mental health was affected by her partner of 21 years ending their relationship, which was followed by Jayne being diagnosed with Asperger鈥檚 and ADHD.

Traumatic

鈥淚t was quite traumatic for me,鈥 said Jayne. 鈥淲e have a daughter, who was nine at the time, and when he left he made it seem he was leaving because he was unhappy.

鈥淲e parted on amicable terms, but it transpired he left to be with someone else. That felt like a betrayal.鈥

Jayne added: 鈥淢y head was full of these difficult thoughts. I wanted to come back to them and deal with them, but I couldn鈥檛 deal with them while they were in my head.

鈥淪o, I started writing things down. It is quite cathartic to get things down on paper and out of my head.鈥

Positive

Angela Toulson, executive officer at Rotherham Abuse Counselling Service, said: 鈥淎ny form of feedback is really positive beause it鈥檚 about making sure the service meets the needs of our service users.

鈥淎nd it鈥檚 really positive that Annmarie has been able to help her in this way.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not just about this particular instance. She can use her skill and ways of managing other things that are going to happen at a later time.

鈥淪he can take it forward in her life and pass it on to other people to help them.鈥
