Section four - Ethical considerations
The Social Response Cycle resource

Consider the ethical tensions which attach themselves to social justice projects taking place outside the consulting room.

Previously, we recognised that enterprise and therapy can seem as unlikely a match as a square hole and a round peg.听

We considered the overlap between the two professional frames and the missing pieces needed for a good fit to be possible. In Section听one听we focused this examination on the personal attributes, skills and attitudes needed for each professional frame.听

In this section, we'll review the ethical tensions that can arise when we try to work across the domains of therapy and entrepreneurism. We'll refer to the 香港六合彩精准资料 Ethical Framework and try to identify if there are any gaps in the framework for therapists working as entrepreneurs.

This short section will refer to the ethical issues interwoven into previous sections. It's not intended to provide an exhaustive list of possible ethical tensions but to offer a starting point and an orientation for thinking about and resolving them.听

The decision-making process

Here we explore the decision-making processes of deciding to work with a particular group.

Read the following passage and consider the questions.

When setting up the international project supporting refugees, Colleagues Across Borders, we wanted to think carefully about how we felt pulled by compassion to respond, by offering support to the most vulnerable 鈥� the refugees in most need. On reflection, it seemed that the kind of remote support we were able to offer could create expectations from the most vulnerable people - expectations we couldn't hope to meet.

We therefore decided to focus on supporting the supporters which, ultimately would benefit the supporters鈥� highly vulnerable clients. We knew this was a small and un-newsworthy kind of intervention, and we would probably sacrifice the amount of support we would be able to attract, but, on balance, it seemed the right thing to do.听

鈥淔ormal research is very costly. It听can also be experienced by communities as a form of听extractivism听- a kind of data mining activity (Phipps, 2013:19)鈥澨�听
鈥淭he feasibility study cost money (which could have been used for delivering a service). It was time-consuming (it delayed our ability to start offering a service to people who were already distressed), and it told us what we already knew.鈥�
