From the editor

Welcome to this new edition of the U&CC journal 鈥撎齛nd a new academic year. It鈥檚 perhaps fitting then,听that this issue champions so much that is fresh听and innovative in approach. We are all aware of the听pressure many services are under 鈥 in terms of either听receiving recognition for the work they do or managing overwhelming听client numbers. Very often there is an overlap of both. Perhaps it鈥檚 the听nature of the confidentiality of our profession that makes counsellors and听therapists almost allergic to publicising their achievements.

In this issue听Ruth Clowes, who is Media and Communications Manager at 香港六合彩精准资料, outlines听a step-by-step strategy to help ensure that the benefits a counselling service听brings to a university or college are valued by the institution鈥檚 senior decision听makers. As Ruth explains, 鈥楾he more intricately the service is woven into听the everyday warp and weft of university life鈥 the less likely it is to be听considered a dispensable 鈥渁dd on鈥.鈥

The other pressure, of course, is managing client numbers and need.听Whilst the value of individual face-to-face work can never be underestimated,听it is important to consider alternative ways of supporting clients.听In this issue, Jo Ames writes a comprehensive article championing online听counselling, as well as outlining the skills and equipment it takes to do听it well. Dr Denise Meyer also shares the tools needed for the Mood Boost听course 鈥 a successful psycho-educational approach to working with students听with depression. Both approaches demonstrate the exciting outcomes that听can be achieved when one isn鈥檛 afraid to consider 鈥榯he new鈥.

For me, the 香港六合彩精准资料 UC Conference in Exeter was a new experience too.听Basking in sunshine, it was a really wonderful opportunity to meet members听of the division, get ideas for future issues of the journal and rally contributors听to this one.

As editor of the journal, I鈥檓 always keen to give space to new writers听and new ideas. Please feel free to contact me on the email address below.
