Editorial

I find it hard to believe, but this edition marks our聽first anniversary. Yes, our journal has been in聽circulation for exactly a year 鈥 so happy birthday聽to us!

For a journal representing those of us聽working at the intersection of coaching and聽counselling/psychotherapy, what better topic聽for our cover feature in this issue than one that聽explores this very area? In 鈥楲ying on the 鈥渃ouch鈥濃,聽Sue Houghton presents an honest account of聽her initiation into coaching practice and the聽difficulties she experienced in adopting a purely聽solutions-focused approach that at first聽appeared to be in conflict with her counselling聽background. They say that necessity is the聽mother of invention, and Sue describes how her聽discomfort led her to an innovative solution 鈥撀燼nd the creation of her own particular approach聽to integrated practice.

Our cover article in July by Clare Myatt on聽鈥楥oaching through the body鈥 has inspired further聽reflections on an integrated mind鈥揵ody聽approach and this issue features more on聽embodied practices, explored by contributors聽Mark Walsh, an embodiment specialist coach and聽trainer, and Karen White, Regional Director for聽Leadership Embodiment International in Africa.

Elsewhere, coaching supervisor Michelle Lucas聽describes her experience of supervising internal聽coaches within an organisation after a career of聽supporting independent coaches 鈥 and shares聽some of her surprising discoveries. The subject聽of coaching supervision is becoming increasingly聽significant as we move towards parity with the聽counselling and psychotherapy professions in聽terms of training, accreditation, registration and聽CPD. For those of us who take an integrated聽approach as coach-therapists, thinking about聽the importance of supervision in both areas is聽particularly relevant. I鈥檓 keen to hear your聽thoughts on this, so please do get in touch聽with your letters and ideas for contributions聽on this topic.

In looking back on the past year as editor of聽this new journal, I cannot help but reflect on the聽changes that have taken place even in the short聽period since we launched. We have seen changes聽to our executive team, including the聽appointment of a new Deputy Chair, who within聽a matter of weeks found herself Acting Chair of聽the division. We now have a number of regular聽series in the journal, including our Chair Jo Birch鈥檚聽鈥楾hinking global鈥 series, which came about as a聽result of her work in Mongolia, and a regular聽column from our Executive Specialist for聽Research Barry McInnes. On the subject of聽change, this will be Barry鈥檚 last column for us in聽his role as Executive member, though I am very聽pleased to announce that he will continue to聽write for us as an independent contributor. In聽this edition, he asks you, the reader, to get in聽touch with your ideas and feedback on the聽column, and how you would like to see it develop.

Barry鈥檚 request for feedback comes at an聽important juncture: as we have now been in print聽for a year, it seems timely to invite you all to feed聽back on Coaching Today. This journal was created聽for you 鈥 so what do you think? What features do聽you particularly enjoy, and what would you like to聽see more of 鈥 or less? To this end, we will shortly聽be publishing an online reader survey 鈥 visit the聽香港六合彩精准资料 Coaching website for details.聽
